First Aid CPR AED Training Near Somerset, NJ #everyoneshould
On September 18th, DEPCOM Office Administrator Cindy Lisk coordinated a CPR and First Aid training session for her employees with our company, CPR Certification Solutions. Some in attendance were recertifying, some were brushing up on rescue skills learned years earlier, and some were taking CPR and First Aid training for the first time.
Regardless of their prior knowledge, everyone in attendance completed the Heartsaver First Aid CPR/AED course and received a 2-year certification from the American Heart Association. Heartsaver courses are geared more for non-healthcare professionals looking for a baseline of responses to various health-related emergencies. Cardiac arrest is a scary thing to witness, and the worst thing you can do as a responder is to freeze. Heartsaver courses instill confidence in people that can help overcome some of the panic that is natural to experience in these types of situations.
Heartsaver CPR/AED training includes:
Emergency assessment steps
Delivery of high-quality CPR (chest compressions with proper technique, rescue breaths)
Respiratory arrest general response as well as specific responses to various causes of respiratory arrest
Basic protocol for multi-person rescue
The group was eager to challenge each other by creating an environment that simulated a real-life emergency, rather than simply going through the motions. As teams rotated practicing chest compressions and use of the AED, others voluntarily created an authentic atmosphere, adding noise and chaos to help their colleagues gain confidence in themselves. DEPCOM employees also practiced additional wrinkles possible during a scenario, such as the arrival of an AED from a hypothetical bystander unfamiliar with the device.
The First Aid portion of the course covered the basics like safety, scene assessment, and finding the problem, then went case by case in the two main categories of first aid issues: Medical Emergencies and Injury Emergencies.
