Office Manager Allyson Locklear invited us onsite on August 2nd to recertify the Little Teeth team in Basic Life Support (BLS) best practices. Aaron Frankel led a group of six, including Drs. Sathish Iyer and Aamna Ali, on the proper response to a potential cardiac emergency.
During the session, the group reviewed and practiced:
Immediate assessment and response to a possible cardiac arrest
Delivery of high-quality chest compressions and rescue breaths
Importance, function, and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Best practices for a multi-person rescue team, including communication and standard division of responsibilities
Adjustments to CPR approach for both children (ages 1 to puberty) and infants (ages 0 to 12 months)
Connections between cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest, as well as intervention steps to take for respiratory emergencies as well as common relevant situations (choking, drowning)
With office mascot Rio the rescue dog overseeing the activities, the Little Teeth team sharpened their physical response skills and—once prepared—took the American Heart Association BLS exam. Though it took place on a summer Saturday, the group appreciated the chance to review critical life-saving techniques, and everyone found the BLS session both informative and enjoyable.
