American Heart Association CPR & First Aid Classes in Somerset, NJ

The group completed the AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED & First Aid course, taught by #everyoneshould AHA-certified CPR instructors Ernest Hall and Aaron Frankel.

This nationally recognized certification course is designed for non-medical professionals, construction teams, supervisors, and employees responsible for workplace safety.

After CPR skills were demonstrated, the class transitioned into the First Aid training portion of the Heartsaver program. While CPR is essential, most workplace emergencies involve injuries or medical conditions that do not involve cardiac arrest.

Participants were trained to:

• Identify injuries and sudden illnesses

• Assess severity and scene safety

• Determine when emergency medical services (EMS) are required

• Provide appropriate first aid care until help arrives

As a repeat CPR training client, Deane Contracting employees shared real-world job-site experiences, reinforcing how early first aid intervention improves outcomes and workplace safety.

Key message emphasized throughout the class: Do not freeze. Knowing when and how to act saves lives.

Medical Emergency Awareness Covered in Class

The course reviewed how to recognize and respond appropriately to common medical emergencies, including:

• Choking

• Severe allergic reactions

• Asthma-related breathing difficulties

Participants learned when and how to activate emergency response systems and provide immediate assistance within the scope of the AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR/AED curriculum.

Injury Emergency First Aid Training

The class also covered proper first aid responses for common workplace injuries, including:

• Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and cold-related exposure

• Poisoning and chemical exposure

• Bites and stings

• Concussions and head injuries

• Thermal and chemical burns

This training prepares employees for emergencies commonly encountered in construction, industrial, and field-based work environments.
